Only pressed specimens and dry spceimens are loaned, but no spirit material. Type material can also be loaned. Loans are only sent to recognized public herbaria. The duration of a loan is usually one year.
Please note the instructions for the use of the specimens. IMPORTANT NOTE: Many succulents (e.g. all cacti and all succulent Euphorbias) are included in one of the appendices to CITES and loans must therefore be accompanied by the necessary documents. If such material is requested for a loan, the CITES registration number of the requesting institution must be indicated.
We have a limited exchange programme with several herbaria. We are always interested in specimens of succulent plants on a world-wide scale. In exchange, we offer predominantly specimens that were prepared on the basis of documented living material in our collection (pressed specimens as well as voluminous dry specimens).
Visits are only possible after early previous agreement. The herbarium of the Sukkulenten-Sammlung Zürich is a small institution with very limited staff. The herbarium is open to all persons with proven scientific interest. Material for comparisons (herbarium specimens or living plants) can be brought to our institution, but may not be taken into the herbarium proper. Please inform yourself about the usage limitations of the herbarium when you visit us for the first time.
The herbarium is ususally accessible AFTER PREVIOUS AGREEMENT from Tuesday to Friday between 8.00 and 16.00 (except public holidays and during school holidays). Please present yourself at the secretariat on the first floor of the administration building. NO VISITS ARE POSSIBLE WITHOUT PREVIOUS AGREEMENT.
The collection of living plants at the Sukkulenten-Sammlung is open daily including sundays and public holidays from 9.00 to 11.30 and from 13.30 to 16.30. The collection can be visited freely, and admission is free.
